Three graduate students receive NSF Fellowship AwardsThree graduate students receive NSF Fellowship Awards

Three graduate students working under the direction of Chemistry faculty have received five year NSF Graduate Research Fellowships that provides a $32K annual stipend plus tuition support. Jessica McKinley is working on computational chemistry under the direction of Prof. Beran, while Katie Magnone and Ariana Nguyen are working on materials chemistry under the direction of Prof. Bartels. Another chemistry student, Melissa Morgan, received honorable mention and is working on chemical imaging under the direction of Prof. Cheng.  Read Moretest

Erik Romero was UCR's recipient of the American Chemical Society Undergraduate Award for 2014. Erik carried out his undergraduate research in Prof. Morton's laboratory. Erik's University Honors Program (UHP) thesis was of high quality, embodying not only his research at UCR, but also his work at Los Alamos National Laboratory (supported by a 2013 UCR MARCU* fellowship). Patrick Dunne, Ph.D., Retired Senior Advisor in Advanced Processing and Nutritional Biochemistry for the Department of Defense Combat Feeding Directorate at the U.S. Army Research Center, has received the 2014 Nicholas Appert Award for his leadership in focused research in advanced food processing that has led to transition to new processing technologies, such as high pressure processing, pulsed electric field processing, and microwave sterilization to move from laboratory research to industrial adoption and production of improved food products.  Read Moretest
