A perspective article published last month by University of California, Riverside chemists in the Journal of Physical Chemistry Letters was selected as an Editors Choice-an honor only a handful of research papers receive. The perspective reviews the chemists' work on "singlet fission" a process in which a single photon generates a pair of excited states. This 1->2 conversion process, as it is known, has the potential to boost solar cell efficiency by as much as 30 percent.   Read Moretest

The Bardeen group publication entitled - Singlet Fission: From Coherences to Kinetics in the Journal of Physical Chemistry Letters has been selected as an Editors Choice manuscript that highlights new research of particular importance to the scientific community. Singlet fission is a process in which a photon creates an excited state that spontaneously splits into two lower energy excited states. This phenomenon has the potential to boost the efficiency of solar cells by up to 30 percent.   Read Moretest

Patrick Dunne, Ph.D., Retired Senior Advisor in Advanced Processing and Nutritional Biochemistry for the Department of Defense Combat Feeding Directorate at the U.S. Army Research Center, has received the 2014 Nicholas Appert Award for his leadership in focused research in advanced food processing that has led to transition to new processing technologies, such as high pressure processing, pulsed electric field processing, and microwave sterilization to move from laboratory research to industrial adoption and production of improved food products.  Read Moretest
