Undergraduate Program

WINTER 2007 CHEMISTRY UNDERGRADUATE REGISTRATION PROCEDURE

Monday, November 6th through Wednesday, December 6th

1.  Run a Degree Check through GROWL to see your remaining requirements.

2.  Submit your proposed course plan through GROWL.

3.  Colleen Fleming (your Academic Advisor) will review your proposed course plan and clear the Registration Hold.

4.  Register for courses on your assigned day and time.

REMEMBER: You cannot enroll until your assigned registration date and time (however you can register any time after)!!! The Registrar’s Office assigns the registration appointment periods.

At UCR, the following students receive priority registration appointment periods:

Graduate students; Disabled students; Regents' Scholars;Chancellor's Scholars;University Honors Program students;Student Athletes

Appointment periods for all other students are determined by a student's number of earned units—highest number to lowest number. Thus a senior with 172 earned units will receive an earlier appointment period than a senior with 145 earned units.

Colleen Fleming is your Academic Advisor (colleen.fleming@ucr.edu). She can answer any questions regarding University policies and procedures. To ensure uniform interpretation of these rules, she keeps track of your records, checks your registration each quarter, and advises you on your schedule of classes. She does not write letters of recommendation.

You are also assigned a Faculty Advisor. Faculty Advisors can provide advice about career goals and write letters of recommendation for you. They can answer specific questions about Chemistry course concepts and Chemistry-related topics, like undergraduate research opportunities and how to get into graduate school. They are all Ph.D.s in Chemistry. They have all been Undergraduates. They know what you are going through. They are good people to know. You can find your Faculty Advisor information on the list posted on this website at

During this registration period of November 6th through December 6th, you should contact your Faculty Advisor and make an appointment for a meeting. You can contact your Faculty Advisor by email or phone. Please respect your Faculty Advisor and show up for the meeting at the time agreed upon. If you find that you will not be able to make the arranged meeting, please email or phone your Faculty Advisor and let he or she know so that you can reschedule the meeting. If you are a Junior or Senior, this would be a good time to get your Curriculum Vitae together and bring it with you to your meeting. You can ask your Faculty Advisor for a letter of recommendation. If you are a Freshman or Sophomore, this is the time to start networking with your Faculty Advisor.  Every student needs to:

1.     Email Colleen when you have made your appointment with your Faculty Advisor, telling her the date and time so she can give your file to your Faculty Advisor

2.     After your meeting, your Faculty Advisor will sign off (and date) on the Course Schedule planner form and return your file to Colleen who will then clear the Registration Hold

The Internet and Email are your friends!!!
