Alzheimer's disease, the most common cause of dementia among the elderly, is characterized by plaques and tangles in the brain, with most efforts at finding a cure focused on these abnormal structures. Pritam Shankhari, a graduate student in Prof. Boniface Fokwa's lab, was selected for his creative and outstanding research contributions in computational design and experimental realization of new boride-based magnetic materials. The Robert C. Haddon Endowed Graduate Award was established in Professor Haddon's memory by his family to encourage and recognize students for research excellence, particularly in the fields of materials chemistry.test

The ACIF welcomes back alumnus Lingchao Zhu (Ph.D. 2013) as the new Academic Coordinate for NMR and Optical Spectroscopy. Lingchao received his Ph.D. in Physics from UCR under the co-direction of Leonid Pryadko in Physics and Len Mueller in Chemistry. After working in the NMR facilities at UW Madison and U Penn, we are excited to have him back in Southern California.test
