Central to our group’s interests is the pursuit of new methods for organic synthesis with emphases in catalysis and novel reactivity. Our synthetic endeavors are complemented by experimental and computational mechanistic studies to allow for a deep understanding of the fundamental chemistry. New reactions developed in our lab will be implemented in powerful strategies for total synthesis. In this regard, natural products with exciting biological functions that concern human health serve as inspiration. For example, the annotinolide natural products (shown above) inhibit the aggregation of amyloid-β1-42 peptides, a process that is implicated in Alzheimer’s disease, and their structural complexity provides opportunities for methodology development.
