Change of Major, Minor, and Transferring in Chemistry

• Change of Major Criteria for Chemistry

  CHEM B.A. Change of Major Table

  Students must be in Good Academic Standing at the time the Change of Major Petition is filed. 2.0 quarter, cumulative, and upper-division GPA Grades of C- or better in attempted major requirements Degree program must be completed within 216 earned units.

  Freshman (up to 44.0 units)	Sophomore (45 - 89.9 units)	Junior (90 - 134.9 units)	Senior (135 units & above)
  Completion of the following courses, with a grade of C- or better CHEM 001A/ CHEM 002A CHEM 01LA/ CHEM 02LA MATH 009A	Completion of all previously listed criteria and the following courses with a grade of C- or better: CHEM 001B/ CHEM 002B CHEM 01LB/ CHEM 02LB CHEM 001C/ CHEM 002C CHEM 01LC/ CHEM 02LC MATH 009B MATH 009C PHYS 040A or PHYS 002A & PHYS 02LA	Completion of all previously listed criteria and the following courses with a grade of C- or better: CHEM 005 CHEM 008A & CHEM 08LA CHEM 008B & CHEM 08LB CHEM 008C & CHEM 08LC MATH 010A PHYS 040B or PHYS 002A & PHYS 02LB PHYS 040C or PHYS 002C & PHYS 02LC	Completion of all previously listed criteria and the following courses with a grade of C- or better: CHEM 125 CHEM 150A

• Minor in Chemistry

  To declare a minor, students must: be in good academic standing (quarter and cumulative GPAs at 2.0 and above); complete 2 upper-division courses required for the minor with a C or better; and be able to complete both your major and minor within the 216 unit maximum. *AP/IB units or transfer units earned prior to graduating High School are excluded when determining the 216 unit maximum. Minors must be declared no later then 2 quarters prior to a student's expected graduation term. A minimum of 16 upper-division units must be unique to the minor; additional upper-division units beyond those unique 16 units may also be used toward the major requirements if applicable.

  Chemistry Minor Requirements

  The Minor in Chemistry consists of 21 upper-division units in Chemistry Of the specified upper-division units, a minimum of 16 units must be unique to the minor and may not be used to satisfy major requirements. At least one of the courses used to satisfy the 21 units must be in CHEM 125, CHEM 111, CHEM 140, CHEM 155 or CHEM 166+ (courses which include laboratory work) No more than 8 units on CHEM 19X courses may be used in fulfilling the upper-division units for a minor All of the upper-division courses in Chemistry have a prerequisite of CHEM 001A or CHEM 01HA, CHEM 001B or CHEM 01HB, CHEM 001C or CHEM 01HC, CHEM 01LA or CHEM 01HLA, CHEM 01LB or CHEM 01HLB, CHEM 01LC or CHEM 01HLC and most have CHEM 005 as a prerequisite as well.  Students with a minor in Chemistry should consult with their Chemistry major advisor to construct a specific program consistent with their goals!

   

• Transferring in Chemistry

  Chemistry, B.A. /B.S.

  All majors in the College of Natural and Agricultural Sciences are selective, based on academic preparation and GPA in all transferable coursework, with a minimum GPA of 2.70. Prior to transfer, a minimum grade of "C" is required for all major specific course work, except for *Organic Chemistry (CHEM 008X) which requires a grade of "B".

  Required:	Required ONE sequence from the following:
  General Chemistry Sequence: CHEM 001A, CHEM 001B, & CHEM 001C CHEM 01LA, CHEM 01LB, & CHEM 01LC   Math Sequence (First-Year Calculus): MATH 009A, MATH 009B, & MATH 009C	*Organic Chemistry Sequence: CHEM 008A, CHEM 008B, & CHEM 008C CHEM 08LA, CHEM 08LB, & CHEM 08LC   Math Sequence: MATH 010A, MATH 010B, & MATH 046   General Physics Sequence: PHYS 040A, PHYS 040B, & PHYS 040C
